Russian motorists run the risk of purchasing low-quality and fake antifreeze (coolant), which can lead to expensive car repairs. In a conversation we had with Sputnik radio about this issue said automobile expert, editor-in-chief of the online automotive publication Quto Maxim Rakitin.
“Real antifreeze is a complex chemical compound; it not only cools the engine, but also fights deposits and has lubricating properties that are essential for the pump that moves coolant around the engine circuits. We know there are green, red and blue antifreezes. There are plenty of fakes on the market; there is only colored water,” Rakitin said.
According to the auto expert, the use of a low-quality solution will lead to damage to the pump, as well as the radiator and the expansion tank in which it will freeze. Due to the weak antifreeze, cracks may occur in the engine as the coolant, like oil, contributes to the life of the engine. He advised that antifreeze should be purchased at reliable auto stores, outlets of manufacturing companies and large gas stations.
