Volkswagen has decided to shorten the development period for new cars from 2024 in order to reduce costs. In this respect reports Engine1.
The time it takes for the automaker to develop a new car is planned to be reduced from the current 50 months to 36 months. The company is confident that three years will be enough to bring the new product to market without compromising the quality and safety of the product. It is feared that this measure will help the company save more than 1 billion euros by the end of 2028.
Another change in the work process will be the assembly of fewer test cars; Their number will be reduced by half. Volkswagen is also confident that this measure will not have a negative impact on the quality of models and will result in annual savings of 400 million euros. Taking into account the optimization of other processes and “acceptable staff reductions”, the total annual savings will amount to 770 million euros, the German concern calculated.
Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schaeffer in November explained the need to implement a cost-saving program, including staff reductions and loss of brand competitiveness.
