According to a study by VSK Insurance House (socialbites.ca), the most common victims of theft in Russia at the end of 2023 were owners of Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Lada and Chery cars.
“At the end of 2023, the most stolen car models were Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia K5, Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Palisade, Lada Granta. In the premium car segment, the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class crossover is among the most stolen. The report states that among Chinese cars, Chery Tiggo and Exeed TXL are leaders in thefts.
Moscow became the leading region in the number of thefts; accounted for 51% of cases. Samara region takes second place – 7% of the total number of car thefts.
Overall, by the end of 2023, the number of thefts in Russia has increased by almost 15%. The highest number of car thefts in 2023 were recorded in February, May, August and September.
The most common victims of car thieves this year were corporate fleets; 47% of cases. Among individual drivers, women are predominantly harmed by the actions of criminals (22%).
