The government has earmarked more than 18.5 billion rubles for the reconstruction and expansion of federal highways by 2022. More specifically, the funds will be invested in the improvement of the M-1 Belarus and M-4 Don highways. The corresponding order was signed by Mikhail Mishustin on June 9, the Russian government’s website reports. The message also states exactly what the allocated funds are used for.
“Both roads provide a large flow of passengers and freight. Improving road infrastructure will have a positive effect on the speed of delivery of goods to the final consumer and reduce the burden on drivers as traffic jams and congestion will decrease,” Mishustin said at a June 9 meeting.
It is noted that the resources allocated from the reserve fund will make it possible to quickly complete the replacement of the carriageway and build new interchanges.
There is also a not quite typical (at least not often advertised) cost item: part of the budget will be spent on the construction of ecoducts for the safe passage of animals across the roadway. The cabinet has established that the reconstruction of highways is being worked on as part of the national ‘Safe Quality of Roads’ project.
