Attackers pre-prepare cars for theft by placing radio beacons at car washes or service stations, and they also block signals from security systems in shopping mall parking lots. The head of the laboratory “Protection of the author against theft” Andrey Kondrashov told socialbites.ca about this.

“In parking lots, car thieves disrupt the activation signal of cars with keyless entry when the driver gets out of the vehicle. Their job is to force the owner to lock the car with the key so that the alarm does not go off,” explained Kondrashov.

In such cases, the driver thinks that the remote control’s battery is dead. The expert added that he went to change it and that’s when the theft occurred. Criminals also often place GPS beacons on the car they plan to steal. This takes place at a car wash or car service center.

“Beacons are placed on the body of the car using magnets or, if the car is in service, in a hard-to-reach place – under the seat or in a niche for the spare wheel. But it is impossible to detect it without the help of special equipment,” concluded Kondrashov.
