Evgeny Shmelev, AvtoVAZ’s first vice president for strategy and technical development, admitted that the plant had to produce a large number of unfinished cars, reports “Russian newspaper”.
“One way or another, we are forced to produce incomplete cars that are stored at AvtoVAZ sites and dealers. At its peak, it even exceeded 15 thousand,” the publication said, quoting Shmelev’s speech at the Barcamp 2023 conference.
According to him, the plant also allowed pauses in production due to lack of components; without this, there is no point in assembling finished cars in the future due to the sheer amount of time required to complete them. In addition, AvtoVAZ had to temporarily reduce the volume of production of cars in options-rich versions. This was also due to problems with parts supply.
It was previously known that AvtoVAZ significantly reduced Number of unfinished machines in the warehouse.
