The Ministry of Transport wants a ban on installing road control cameras that record similar violations at intervals of one kilometer in the city and five kilometers outside the city. The newspaper describes it as follows:Kommersant”
On September 1, 2024, a law developed on behalf of the president that tightens the rules on the use of traffic cameras will come into force. This bill limits the number of places where surveillance systems will be installed and provides for mandatory coordination of places with the traffic police. Additionally, some technical details will be included in an additional government decree.
Other innovations include information panels that warn about “controlled conditions and driving modes.” These panels will be placed 150-300 meters in front of the control zone.
The bill was criticized by the OKO association, which unites camera manufacturers and photo and video recording system operators. Basically, operators’ dissatisfaction stems from the need to install cameras only in places where accidents have already occurred. The association believes that cameras should also be installed in places where the same type of violations or isolated accidents with victims often occur.
MVS Group, operator of the photo-video recording system near Moscow, believes that the proposed project is against the law and could lead to an increase in the number of accidents.
Before that on the streets of Moscow seen 83 new complexes for photographing traffic violations.
