When re-registering cars, traffic police are most suspicious of cars after body repair, lost documents, with rust on the VIN number, as well as cars from other regions and models that are leaders in theft rates. Such cars have a good chance of being sent for inspection. The head of the autocriminologist expert center Maxim Shelkov told socialbites.ca about this.
“If an inspector sees that the marked panel is deformed, has traces of body repairs and secondary paintwork, such cars are almost guaranteed to be sent for inspection. Often, cars that come from another part of the country and are among the most stolen are sent for examination,” said Shelkov.
The expert also added that inspectors often suspect that cars are lost or have recently repaired documents, or the car does not have a marking plate (or even a copy), or the body number is rusty.
“Corrosion on the body or frame number makes identification difficult. Attackers can also artificially create it using acid to hide the real number,” concluded Shelkov.
