In St. Petersburg, two citizens who disabled an Audi car and tried to sue the automaker for 43 million rubles, treating the malfunction as a production defect, were detained on suspicion of fraud. In this respect reports “Ministry of Internal Affairs Media”.

“Two years ago, the defendants were arrested in St. He bought a 2016 Audi car from an official distributor in St. Petersburg. The foreign car was under warranty and technically sound. In the statement made by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was stated that the attackers disabled the rear seat switch block of the vehicle using special technical devices.

In the petition submitted to the court, it was stated that the malfunction was a manufacturing defect. The amount of claims together with fines, penalties and non-pecuniary damage amounted to 43 million rubles, of which 3.5 million rubles were the cost of the car. Two of those detained had previously been convicted of fraud, one of whom was a lawyer. According to investigators, they developed an unusual scheme to defraud automakers along with other individuals.

The trial court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, but a higher court overturned the decision in July 2023 following a complaint by the automaker. 23 searches were made as part of the criminal investigation into fraud.
