In this respect reports RIA Novosti cited Shamil Magomedov, head of the department “Smart Information Security Systems” at the RTU MIREA Institute of Cybersecurity and Digital Technologies. According to him, such cars can be connected wirelessly remotely via cellular, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
“CAN protocol also poses a danger. It was developed in the 80s and provides a system in which all sensors and devices of the vehicle are combined in a single network. This makes it vulnerable to hacker attacks,” said the expert.
To minimize risks, the expert recommends following the instructions of the manufacturers of machines and related devices, install updates only from official sources and do not try to reinstall the system yourself.
