Spending on new cars by Russian residents in August was 26% higher than in July. This was a record high since January 2021. A total of 109.7 thousand new passenger cars were sold in August. This is 15% more than in July and 2.6 times more than in August last year – 42.6 thousand units. Since January, 1.742 trillion rubles have been spent on the purchase of new cars in the country.

In the last month of summer, 61.8 thousand new Chinese cars were sold for 198.2 billion rubles, or 57.6% of the total. A year ago, the share of Chinese cars was 33.7%. The purchase of European car brands in August cost the Russians 45.9 billion rubles, the locals – 34.9 billion, the Japanese – 33.6 billion, the Koreans – 24.3 billion, the Americans – 7.1 billion.
