According to data released by the Japanese Ministry of Finance, Japan’s automobile exports to Russia increased by 53% in July compared to last year’s average. This information is supported by calculations TASS based on statistical data.

In July, 33,192 vehicles were delivered to Russia, 32,116 of which were cars. This figure exceeds the level in the same period last year by 84%. Total vehicle delivery volume in July was almost one and a half times higher than last year’s average of around 21.6 thousand units.

At the same time, in July, Japan reduced the supply of spare parts and components for automobiles by 44.4%.

Russian experts had previously explained the sharp increase in car exports as buyers tried to bring as many cars as possible before the ban took effect. Since August 9, the delivery of gasoline and diesel cars, as well as hybrid cars with an engine displacement of more than 1.9 liters, from Japan to Russia has been prohibited.

The restraining order was made on July 28 as part of a new package of sanctions against Russia, which Moscow has repeatedly described as illegitimate. Nearly 750 items were also banned, including truck tires, yachts, car seats, car locks, ceramics, paper, glass, ceramic tiles, cement, textiles and other product categories.

The restrictions apply to new and used cars, but the supply of new cars from Japan to Russia stopped completely in 2022.
