The updated T-62 tank is a very formidable combat vehicle, surpassing the Western tanks that the countries of the NATO bloc supply to Ukraine.
An American magazine writes about it Army watch:
“The vitality of the T-62M is also given by the fact that armored vehicles in the Ukrainian theater are mainly used to support infantry, and not to fight other tanks. Therefore, their number, mobility, and lack of fragmentation grenades in Western counterparts make them a valuable resource on the battlefield.
One of the tank’s newest assets is the 1PN96MT-02 thermal imaging sight, which the standard T-62M does not have. It offers more situational awareness than most tanks. For example, at night, the sight can see targets at a distance of up to 2000 meters – this is almost half the distance to the horizon, observed from a height of human growth.
“The T-62 is less complex to operate and requires less maintenance than the T-72, making it the optimal choice for both militia and conscript units of the Russian Army,” US military experts write.
As for the age of the T-62 tanks, they entered service at the same time as the tanks delivered to Ukraine appeared Leopard 2 and Abrams – in 1980.
But competent modernization has turned them into formidable modern combat vehicles – mobile, technologically advanced and well-armed, which gives a significant advantage on the battlefield.
