And the car does everything itself (it finds a free place and carefully parks there), unless, of course, it is a Mercedes-Benz with the Bosch system installed. True, the parking lot itself must be equipped with the appropriate infrastructure.
The self-driving parking technology from Mercedes and Bosch was first approved by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) and is currently being tested in a multi-storey car park in Stuttgart.
Built-in sensors and cameras create a 3D image of the parking environment and monitor the routes in and around the parking garage. The data generated by the Bosch system is sent to the vehicle.
After receiving them, the car can quietly move along the floors without disturbing anyone. The information from the automated parking system also includes the recognition of sudden obstacles and the response to them.
The automatic parking system from Mercedes-Benz and Bosch only works on some S-Class and EQS models, but will soon be available on other models.
In 2023, the Bosch system is to be installed in a further 15 multi-storey car parks in major German cities.
