In Kazakhstan, a driver convicted of crushing a pedestrian due to an opened hood

In Pavlodar (Kazakhstan), a 33-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan was found guilty, who hit a pedestrian because of the open hood of his car after the collision, the driver fled the scene, informs Nur.kz.

“At the intersection of Kamzin and Malaysa Batyr streets, the hood of the car was opened and the windshield was broken while driving before reaching the pedestrian crossing. At that moment, I felt a blow as if I had hit something,” the newspaper says, quoting the words of the defendant at the court.

According to him, eyewitnesses of the incident began to shout that he had hit a man, but the driver went straight ahead and then jumped out of the car and fled the scene. The 56-year-old pedestrian died at the scene. The accident occurred in September 2022.

The suspect of the accident was arrested two days later. The court sentenced him to 2.5 years in prison and ordered compensation of 3 million tenge (516.6 thousand rubles) in favor of the deceased’s brother.

Previously, the Supreme Court of Bashkiria lowered 13 to 11 years for Audi driver who killed four girls while intoxicated.
