Latvia sent the first batch of cars confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukraine. This is reported by the Delfi portal with reference to the country’s government revenue service.
The first batch included eight cars, including Honda, Toyota, Volvo, Volkswagen and Opel. The cars were produced from 1999 to 2011.
According to preliminary data, the total cost of the cars is estimated at 18.5 thousand euros.
Latvian Seimas in mid-February approved Amendments to the law on supporting the civilian population of Ukraine, which will allow cars confiscated from drunk drivers to become the property of the Ukrainian government. According to the amendments, any state-owned transport can be sent to the disposal of the Ukrainian authorities.
The Latvian State Revenue Service has so far held auctions where anyone can buy cars confiscated from drunk drivers. At the same time, the demand for such cars is high due to relatively low prices.
