Nissan wants to accelerate its electrification program. Announced way back in 2021, Nissan’s Ambition 2030 strategy called for the launch of 23 hybrid models and 15 all-electric models by the end of the decade.

But the updated strategy of new products plans more to meet the “needs of individual markets, enhance global competitiveness.”

Nissan now aims to bring at least 19 new electric vehicles and 27 new hybrid models to market by 2030.

In Europe, electrified vehicles should account for up to 98% of the company’s sales by 2026.

Despite the huge growth in demand for electric vehicles in China, Nissan does not expect a quick sales success. According to the forecast, only 35% of cars will be sold there in 2026 Nissan will be hybrid and electric (previously the plan indicated 40%). In 2024, however, the automaker will release an electric car specifically for China.

Last January, Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi announced that they would invest $25 billion to jointly develop and produce more than 35 new electric vehicles before the end of the decade. At the same time, 90% of these 35 new models will be built on five common platforms: CMF-AEV, KEI-EV, LCV-EV, CMF-EV and CMF-BEV. Joint development and orders will reduce battery prices by 50% in 2026 and by 65% in 2028.
