After three years of testing, Berlin-based Vay has launched the first vehicle on public roads driven exclusively by so-called teledrivers. The usage permit is valid from December 2022.

The route includes a predetermined area where TV rides are now being tested.

Wei is working on a door-to-door service where customers order an electric car via an app. The special thing is that the TV driver remotely delivers the car directly to the customer – from the telecontrol center. There, drivers (real people!) sit at the station with a car steering wheel and pedals, as well as all the necessary controls. They have an overview of the traffic situation via various screens and headphones.

When customers arrive at their destination, the TV driver diverts the vehicle onto a different route. This eliminates the painful search for a parking space.

So far, the service is only being tested, but according to the developers, the price will fit into the cost of car sharing and should become a comfortable alternative to a private car in the future. At the same time, the customer of such an “outside worker” himself may not even have any rights.
