The advantage of Chinese cars is their availability. Plus European – in their familiarity. Now if a Chinese crossover with European genes came on the market… And such a car exists.

This is Geely Tugella, which is built on a common Sino-Swedish CMA platform. What do the Chinese crossover and the Volvo XC40 have in common? invented the expert “Behind the wheel”, the oldest and most authoritative automotive publication in Russia, Alexander Vinogradov. How related are the crossovers or is it just a rumor? We compare three parameters.

engines

Engines 4G20TDB (Tugella, 238 hp) and B4204T (Volvo, power 190 and 249 hp) only differ in software. Outwardly, these motors are absolutely identical, and all their parts, as well as consumables, are interchangeable. Candles, filters, belts… Everything.

But for Tugella, consumables are cheaper, although they are no different from marking. An air filter for a Chinese crossover costs 970 rubles, and for a Swedish – 3900. Oil filter Geely costs 700 rubles, and for Volvo — at 2500.

Transfer

Same story with an 8-speed automatic – both crossovers have the same unit: TG-81SC businesses Aisin.

The expert “Behind the wheel” also found no difference in the four-wheel drive system. After driving the cars up the elevator, he saw completely identical cars. The traditional Volvo BorgWarner (Haldex) coupling has also been mounted on it Yellow.

delay

There is also full interchangeability of all spare parts, right down to the nuts. Levers, silentblocs, stabilizer bars, shock absorbers, subframes… But with one important difference. As for Volvofor example, the front stabilizer strut costs 5200 rubles, then exactly the same front strut Geely costs 1500 rubles.

From this we can conclude that we are dealing with two premium crossovers, one of which behaves more kindly to the owner’s wallet. By the way, in case of XC40 the overpayment problem can be solved – just contact the dealers Geely.

You can learn more about the characteristics of the Geely Tugella and Volvo XC40 in the February issue of “Behind the Wheel” magazine – already on sale.

The material is prepared on the basis of Alexander Vinogradov’s article “Such different twins”, published in issue 2.2023 of the magazine “Behind the wheel”
