The coolant in the car engine should be changed according to the age or mileage of the car, otherwise the engine may fail. Sergei Shabunin, the main buyer of the Veshnyaki Avto technical center, told socialbites.ca about this.
“The average life of antifreeze is 5 years or 50,000 kilometers. Oil change recommendations are written in each car’s service book and may vary by make and model. It should also be taken into account that the old G11 and G12 class antifreezes are weaker, and modern G13s can last longer, ”explained the auto mechanic.
The specialist noted that the properties of antifreeze are affected not only by its service life and mileage, but also by the number of hours, including the warm-up time of the engine and operation in traffic jams. The interlocutor advised that the car owner can use special devices to find out the condition of the coolant, for example, after buying a car on the secondary market.
“If you don’t change the antifreeze on time, the engine will boil and not run properly in the summer, and may freeze in the winter. Over time, the coolant loses its properties, which leads to the formation of deposits that clog in the smallest channels. This leads to the failure of the engine stove, oxidation occurs in the radiator and it begins to rot, ”warned Shabunin.
