Once there were a lot of such cars, but now only a few of them remain. One of those dump trucks – the MAZ-205A – is standing in front of the checkpoint of the Minsk automobile plant. And the second, which is discussed in the overview video, is in the Moscow Transport Museum. The base model, the onboard MAZ-200, was very, very modern for its time: pneumatic brakes, an adjustable driver’s seat, a powerful economical diesel engine.
True, the legitimacy of using a diesel engine – then on the YAZ-200 experimental trucks produced in Yaroslavl in 1944-1945 – the designers had to defend before Stalin himself. He initially argued for ZiS’s usual petrol engine. Nevertheless, everything worked out – the truck remained with a diesel engine and, in general, turned out to be very successful. And the MAZ-205A dump truck, the rarest modification in modern times, also had a number of features – for example, a power take-off shaft for a pump that lifts the body … A complete replacement for these trucks, which did a good job in the post-war years, was found very, very long.
