Hyundai Mobis, part of the Hyundai Motor Group conglomerate, showed a prototype of the electric car Hyundai Ioniq 5 with four e-Corner modules. This allows the electric car to drive in “crab mode”, diagonally or sideways, but also to make a “tank turn” on the spot.

The e-Corner system is a wheel module that includes a traction motor, strut, brakes and individual steering. All this works with wire, and the angle of rotation of such a wheel is 180 degrees.

Although this is just a test prototype, Hyundai Mobis is not releasing any details. But the developers note that the video shows “real moves” provided by four modules. Their “advantages in narrow city center streets or loading bays should be obvious.”
