We’re going to a flat
In contrast to the permanent four-wheel drive Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, the second axle of the Isuzu Mu-X is rigidly connected (part-time schedule). The disadvantages of this type of four-wheel drive are obvious: you can not always drive it, it does not stand firmly on slippery or wet roads, it is not suitable for urban conditions.
The Mu-X, however, engages in the stabilization system quite intelligently and competently. Driving with rear-wheel drive is not scary. Especially against the background of the fact that Pajero Sport, which apparently relies on permanent four-wheel drive, switches on ESP later, causing major slips.
When riding, the Isuzu doesn’t behave like a rough frame and rides more than decently. Mitsubishi also does not remind the driver that there is a bridge behind it. But it very meticulously transmits all the blows on the wheels to the steering wheel. As a result, his suspension, which is already a bit stiffer than the Isuzu, feels more bumpy.
Off asphalt
When you drive on a hard off-road, the difference disappears. Pajero Sport allows you to select the driving mode depending on the type of coverage. But no significant difference in machine behavior follows from this.
The ground clearance of rivals is almost identical (215mm for Mitsubishi, 210mm for Isuzu). Off-road arsenal – also: lowering and locking rear differentials (Mitsubishi also blocks the intermediate axle, Isuzu rigidly connected the front axle).
Pajero Sport can be used in any mode with four-wheel drive. Mu-X is compared to him because of his confident behavior only on hard off-road.
Power and consumption
Diesel Mitsubishi is weaker: 181 forces against 190 for Isuzu. Acceleration is slower, although that is not so important for such SUVs. But saving at least half a liter of diesel per 100 km is nice. Mitsubishi is also favored by a smaller engine size (2.4 liters versus 3.0) and a greater number of gears in the machine (eight versus six). In the city, the difference can be more than a liter of diesel fuel.
The three liter Isuzu diesel engine is not only used on the D-Max pick-up truck (Pajero Sport is also built on L200 pick-up units), but also on heavier trucks. Therefore, the source must be suitable.
Mandatory maintenance is prescribed every 20,000 km. Compared to Mitsubishi’s 15,000 interval, this saves the owner both time and money. Although many prefer to change the oil between the mandatory maintenance – once every 10,000 km. Depending on the approach of the owner, specific costs will therefore incur.
What to take?
The basic Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (from 4.4 million rubles) is noticeably cheaper than the Mu-X (5.5 million rubles) due to its modest configuration and manual transmission. In rich versions, cars cost the same: 5.5-6 million rubles. But Mitsubishi looks a little more attractive. It is easier to manage and more comfortable.
Although Isuzu also has trumps. This is a fresh model that has not yet become known. And for someone it will be more important than the transmission and the engine.
