In total, more than 1.7 thousand car accidents took place during the New Year holidays, 291 people were killed and more than 2.6 thousand were injured.
This is a lot – in 45 regions of the Russian Federation there is a risk that it will not be possible to reduce the planned reduction in the number of road fatalities in the first month of the New Year.
427 pedestrian accidents were recorded: 55 people died, three were children. 413 people sustained injuries of varying severity, 50 of them minors. 145 such accidents occurred on pedestrian crossings and 282 – outside the crossing.
With the participation of drivers who do not have the right to drive a vehicle, 93 accidents were recorded in which 24 people died and 123 were injured.
During the holiday season quite a few drunk drivers were driving: in total there were about 120 such accidents from 1 January to 8 January, resulting in 12 deaths and 173 injuries.
There were many accidents involving minors: 277, as a result, 24 children died, 310 were injured. Most of them were vehicle passengers (258 injured and 21 killed), three killed and 50 injured children were pedestrians.
Recommendations
The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds drivers that if there is a child in the cabin, it is necessary to be extremely concentrated behind the wheel, reduce speed and avoid sharp maneuvers, and also use child seats to transport children.
Parents and teachers are advised to have explanatory talks with children about the rules for crossing the carriageway: cross only at the zebra crossing, at the green traffic light and ask adult road users for help crossing if necessary.
