In the next two months, there is a high risk of long traffic jams on some parts of the M-4 Don federal highway, the TASS agency warned, citing Alexander Yemelyanov, a representative of the state-owned company Avtodor. The reason for such an unpleasant forecast is a large-scale repair of the track.
The work covers a route of 108 kilometers, which passes mainly through the territory of the Rostov region. To ensure all technological processes, one of the directions of movement is completely blocked over a length of 5 to 15 km. Two lanes will be left in these sections — one for each direction, Yemelyanov said. In order to reduce the period of disruption to normal traffic, repairs are scheduled to be carried out around the clock.
The company advises motorists to consider alternative routes on regional roads or consider the risk of getting stuck in traffic when planning a route.
Roadworks on the M-4 “Don” are scheduled to be fully completed by mid-June.
The federal highway connects motor transport between Moscow and Krasnodar. In the summer, it receives the largest flow of citizens of the country, who rest in the resorts on the Black Sea and in Crimea.
The Avtodor State Company was founded in 2009 and operates a portion of federal highways – paid or with paid sections. As of 2021, Avtodor managed just over 3,500 km of roads.
