The shortage of spare parts and consumables has pushed up their prices – we are starting to get used to this new reality. In addition, the cost of spare parts is also affected by the fact that components imported from other countries are used for production. For many years, Za Rulem Trading House has been working to expand the product range by domestic manufacturers using a minimum of foreign components. They produce spare parts, accessories and consumables not only for domestic cars, but also for foreign cars.
In conditions of scarcity and high prices, we decided to show with a living example how prices for maintenance can differ when using original consumables, foreign (for example, SA Sakura) and Russian (“Behind the Wheel”) analogues, the quality of which was confirmed during the tests by the experts of “Behind the Wheel”, the oldest and most authoritative automobile publication in Russia.
For this we have taken the APK of five popular models:
- Hyundai Solaris
- Kia Rio
- Renault Duster
- Renault Kaptur
- Lada Largus
Maintenance consumables for Hyundai Solaris and Kia Rio
The original maintenance kit, consisting of air, oil and cabin filters, brake pads, oil and candles, is estimated today at 14,976 rubles. To save you can choose a set Sakura, but it will not cost much cheaper – 14,043 rubles. Using the kit “Behind the wheel” you can get the amount of 10,537 rubles. And the greatest savings give a set SA – 9377 rubles.
Compared to the prices in February, they increased on average by by 38.4% – more than a third.
Maintenance consumables for Renault Duster and kaptur
A similar original set of consumables for these crossovers (filters, pads, oil and candles) costs today 17,237 rubles, which is 93.1% more expensive than in February. Non-original sets from SA and Sakura costs 11,148 and 14,137 rubles, respectively. A kit from the Za Rulem Trade House, which costs 10,327 rubles, will save about 7 thousand rubles – it has increased in price by 57% in a month, and this is the slowest growth among other consumables. Average in the market they have added in price 72.2%.
Maintenance consumables Lada Largus
This is the cheapest car to maintain. But his consumables quickly rose in price – in a month their cost rose on average, by 51.2%. Least of all, the price tags for the products of the Trade House “Za Rulem” – by 45.2%: a set of filters, pads, oil and candles costs today only 5989 rubles. Cheaper, but only a hundred rubles, turned out to be a set of SA – 5884 rubles. Sakura already noticeably more expensive – 7764 rubles, and the original set will cost motorists 8995 rubles, which is three thousand more than the most affordable analogues.
In just one month, the cost of consumables for the cars we examined increased by 38.4%, 72.2% and 51.2%. The growth in one and a half times in just a month is impressive. But the main question is: will it stop or is it worth stocking up on spare parts for the future?
Here’s what our expert thinks.
Expert opinion
Oleg Zemtsov, Director of the Handelshuis “Behind the wheel”:
– Spare parts and consumables today have increased in price on average from 15 to 100%, oils – from 40%, tires – by 30%. There are two reasons for the price increase and the fact that prices have not been reversed due to the strengthening of the ruble. Firstly, this is the still unstable exchange rate of the ruble, which has led to risks being factored into prices. Second, it is a deficit that is just beginning to form.
Any further fluctuations will be more related to the deficit. It seems due to the fact that a number of brands are leaving our market. At the same time, some of them had a market share of up to 70%. Replace of course them we can’t do it fast.
Who will occupy the empty shelves and who is the future? First, it’s China and Turkey. But they won’t sell cheaply – shortages and weak competition are contributing to rising prices. Second, this is Russia, but not everything is so simple here. It is unlikely that we will be able to switch to our own production really quickly and completely. Equipment, technologies… they still need to be purchased and everything needs to be organized. Third, it is a gray or parallel import.
But be that as it may, spare parts will still go to dealers and auto shops, while their costs will include additional logistics, transaction and other costs, which will inevitably increase costs. The optimistic scenario for the end of the year is as follows: price adjustment at the level of +3% to +15%
