About 12% of taxi company owners in Russia are considering liquidating their businesses due to unprofitability, the Public Council for Taxi Development reported.
They conducted a survey among entrepreneurs in the sector, in which more than 170 taxi companies participated. In comparison, during the pandemic period (2020-2021), only about 8% of taxi companies thought about closing their business.
The biggest problem for the industry in 2022 has been the withdrawal of Western automakers from Russia. 81% of carriers faced the lack or high cost of auto parts. At the same time, the fleet renewal utility is valid only in Moscow.
29% of taxi companies ended the year with a loss, the hardest being for taxi companies with less than 50 cars, who have no savings to wait out a difficult period. 51% – on the verge of survival.
What lies ahead for the taxi industry? The life of the machines is extended, which will lead to higher transport costs. Taxi companies continue to rent Chinese cars and are considering buying electric cars from Muscovites and Evolute (all not cheap).
Due to the accumulated problems, taxi fares could increase by 10-20% this year.
