In 2013, Mercedes-Benz released a limited edition G 63 6×6.
Only just over 100 were built, but there are six-wheel off-road vehicles on the market: numerous tuning studios, including Hennessey, now build six-wheel vehicles.
Now the Great Wall comes into play and the company has already road tested a prototype.
To squeeze in the third axle, Great Wall lengthened the pickup’s body and also increased ground clearance. The prototype has no front and rear wheel arches, but that’s simply because they haven’t been made yet, and not because in principle they won’t be.
But Car News China has an image of a six-wheeled Shanhai Cannon 6×6. It is from a Great Wall Motors presentation. It shows the pronounced black fenders and the black sporty roll bar behind the cab.
The six-wheeled Shanhai Cannon will be powered by the same 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged engine as the standard model. The power of this engine is 360 hp. and 500 Nm. Paired with this engine is a 9-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all six wheels.
Great Wall originally planned to launch the Shanhai Cannon 6×6 in May 2021, but the coronavirus pandemic intervened. Now the car should go on sale in the second half of 2023.
