At the beginning of 2023, the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg will be shut down from 9 to 27 January.
The closure will affect the body shop, paint shop and surrounding areas, while waiting area and maintenance will remain operational, a company spokesman said.
The reasons for the stops are the COVID-19 pandemic and events in Ukraine. Volkswagen Group Brand Director Thomas Schaefer called what is happening “complete chaos” in logistics. This has reduced production to less than 400,000 vehicles per year, less than half the capacity of the factory that makes the Golf, Tiguan and Touran.
In the future, ID.3 electric vehicles and Tiguan’s as-yet-unnamed classmate should be on the assembly line.
