Prosperous diesels 1.6 and 2.0 delivered to us on order. More resource 2.0 (136 hp) is combined with a machine gun, 1.6 – with a robot.

The most massive engineEP6 1.6 (120 hp). Excellent performance, but extremely demanding and not particularly reliable. Fuel – not lower than AI-95, oils – the best synthetics. And with 100 thousand km, he begins to eat this synthetic – sometimes up to a liter per 1000 km. Decoking does not give long-lasting results. A low oil level leads to mechanical damage.

Twice every 100 thousand km, they usually replace the water pump and the thermostat once. The timing chain sometimes stretches to 60-80 thousand km, but in most cases it exceeds 150 thousand. Frequent leaks at low mileage – among other things due to wear on the camshaft seats. On runs closer to 200 thousand valve seats can fall out – with expensive repairs.

Later EP6s are more reliable – the engine has been upgraded in stages.

The supercharged version of the same engine EP6DT (140 hp) the same diseases are more pronounced and mature earlier. The timing chain may not last more than 50 thousand km, and oil spills become indecent even earlier. Oddly enough, both engines run 250-300 thousand km, but the trouble and repair costs require significant ones.

Transfer

The five-speed manual transmission is indestructible, only the top gear is a bit short. But the four-speed automatic AL4 (DP0 according to Renault) almost guarantees adventure.

Most are due to the rapid wear of the solenoids and valve body. Shocks and shocks can occur up to 50-60 thousand km. Owners are partly to blame for this, saving on oil changes. And in part – the inertia of the box, imprisoned for calm driving and thus encouraging to step on the pedal. She also poorly tolerates cold driving.

The EGS6 robot is very successful and only one clutch kit kills up to 200 thousand km. An even greater resource is the Japanese Aisin machine gun, which was equipped with cars with a 2.0 diesel engine. The best option, but extremely rare.

Operational ulcers

The suspension is stiff and gives commendable handling. Bad roads quickly shake the front wheel bearings and ball joints, but the repair of the chassis is simple and cheap. Don’t mistake the source of everything else. The elements of the steering mechanism are also durable.

  • The brake pads of the first configuration went about 40 thousand km, the discs could wear out or warp 50-60 thousand.
  • The inefficient operation of the heater (at high mileage) is most often associated with clogging of the radiator. Flushing does not help, it is better to change.
  • In winter, the folding mechanism of the mirror often freezes.
