New road signs appeared on the A9 Munich-Ingolstadt motorway, the meaning of which turned out to be incomprehensible to motorists. The round plates are somewhat reminiscent of the sign “Radiation”: they depict strange geometric shapes in white and black. There are signs every 2.5 kilometers.
Later, drivers were reassured and told they could just ignore these signs – this isn’t for them, it’s for autonomous vehicles.
Self-driving cars can use so-called landmarks to determine their exact location. The signs appeared first on the A9 motorway, because this is where most drone tests take place.
Drone trials are also in full swing in Russia. In the near future they will go to the Moscow-St. Petersburg highway. Should we expect new signs on the highway?
