Petrol aspirated 6B31 V6 3.0 (220 hp)) – less than a quarter of the offers on the secondary market. The same is used on the Outlander. Eat AI-92, the total resource goes more than 300 thousand km. Only compatible with hydraulics. Oil leaks.

After 200-220 thousand km, camshafts, bedding and rocker arms often wear out, chips accumulate in the oil pan – repairs are necessary, including replacement of liners. Weak supports – sometimes it’s time to replace them after 50 thousand km. An oil pump approaches 120 thousand – a drop in performance leads to its collapse. The sound of hydraulic lifters is also a bad omen.

Diesel 4M41 3.2 (163 hp) only came to us in the first year of sales. The timing chain can withstand 200-250 thousand km. The injection pump is capable of 300 thousand, but many have previously become victims of bad diesel fuel. Injectors live up to 150 thousand, turbine – about 250.

The crankshaft pulley (the rubber layer exfoliates), the alternator belt (whistling – it is necessary to tighten or replace), the EGR valve requires constant attention. The resource of the engine is more than 400 thousand km.

It was replaced by a less reliable one 4D56 2.5 (178 hp). The set of weaknesses is similar, but sores are more common. Plus intolerance to overheating (breaks through the cylinder head gasket). At each MOT, the balance belt drive, thermal clearances and timing belt tension must be checked. The resource is indicated at 200 thousand km. With perfect care, the engine will pass 300 thousand, but its maintenance is troublesome and costly.

Transfer

The manual is excellent. He is friends only with diesels, and they chose him quite often with a view to overcoming difficult roads. That is, when buying a car with mileage, some roughness of the gearbox is possible. The clutch assembly does not differ in durability, but under moderate load it will last more than 120 thousand km.


Automatic V5A51 – also with five stages. One of the most reliable and durable – problems are usually caused by natural wear and tear, with the exception of frequently failing selector position sensors and input shaft speeds. It tolerates high loads very well. But it overheats during a long movement in tension – and automatically switches to protective mode.

For confident conquest of virgin lands, it is recommended to install an additional radiator. The minimum that the unit is capable of with proper care is 200 thousand km. Many copies left more than 350 thousand.

The four wheel drive system is a strong thing and brought to near perfection. However, the cardan shaft connections must be sprayed regularly. The service life of individual components directly depends on the operating modes.

Operational ulcers

The pendant is strong. Double wishbones at the front and a solid axle at the rear. Weaknesses were not identified.

  • The steering mechanism is not perfect. Both the rail (at 40-60 thousand km) and the column can knock. Sometimes bites the hinge of the steering shaft. In addition, the steering wheel itself is overwritten very quickly.
  • There are many complaints about the vague “climate” algorithm, rather dim lighting, interior materials and the rapid appearance of crickets.
