53% of Russian car owners use toll roads with varying degrees of intensity, and 51% of respondents believe there are not enough toll roads in their region.
This is according to the results of a survey conducted by the Otkritie Avto subdivision (automotive business unit of Otkritie Bank).
- 53% of domestic drivers use toll roads, but the frequency of use is still low
- 32% – several times a year
- 5% – once a month
- 10% – several times a month
- 4% – several times a week
- 2% – daily.
At the same time, 47% of motorists are not willing to pay money for roads in principle. In Siberia, the share of such drivers reaches 76%, in the Far East – 75%, while in Moscow and the Moscow region only 18% do not use toll roads, and in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region – 16% of respondents.
Young drivers between 18 and 25 years old (70% of respondents) and men (55% of respondents) wear ‘scarves’ more often, less often — drivers over 55 years old (45%) and women (52%).
Issue price
The cost of traveling on toll roads is the most important factor in choosing a route. 82% of respondents are not ready to spend more than 500 rubles for a one-way ticket (even in the Moscow region, where this share is the lowest, 77% voted for this most acceptable price range).
Another 13% of respondents can spend up to a thousand rubles; 2% are ready to pay up to 2000 rubles, 1% – up to 5000 rubles.
2% of car owners can pay any amount for comfort while traveling: women were found to be more generous than men (3% versus 1%).

The survey was conducted from November 26 to December 1 among 1,520 car owners aged 18-65 based on a representative sample in all regions of Russia.
