The traffic police are positive about the idea of introducing express tests for the presence of drug intoxication, which can be carried out directly on the road. This was told by the head of the Scientific Center for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Dmitry Mitroshin.
However, in Russia, when introducing such a mechanism, they faced a number of difficulties. Even establish a legal basis for this difficult. Drug intoxication is much more difficult to diagnose than alcohol intoxication, and even in a medical organization it will not be possible to quickly get the result.
The mechanism of drug intoxication itself is more complicated, there are many nuances. This is one of the reasons why rapid testing has not yet been implemented in our country.
As for express tests, it still does not give a reason to take responsibility, but allows you to take a closer look at a person. And already in the laboratory to make the final decision.
There are even tests that show if someone is a chronic drug addict. Our country also has such equipment – these are chromatographs. But this is very expensive equipment, and it’s not enough just to buy it, you also need to train people to use it, special training is needed.
In this regard, the express test makes it possible to identify suspicious drivers already on the road and send them for further investigation.
