Zavolzhsky Motor Plant (ZMZ) is examining a request to restart production of the discontinued 520-series V8 petrol engine, which has traced its pedigree since 1963. informs Quto.ru with a link to their information.
According to the publication, carriers want to continue the production of this engine, which in recent years has been installed on the cheapest versions of the PAZ-3205 bus. Quto claims it is currently assessing the volume of orders and could resume production of the engine in 2023 if there are enough people willing to buy it.
The V8 engine of the 520th series has its origins in the ZMZ-53 engine, which has been produced in the Volga region since 1963. The engine was discontinued in 2021. During this time, more than 6.5 million of these engines were assembled. With a displacement of 4.67 liters in recent years, this unit had a power of 128-138 horsepower.
