The Interior Ministry could not find a supplier of 2.8 thousand new patrol cars necessary for the traffic police for the 4.5 billion rubles allocated for these purposes.
Previously, Skoda, Hyundai and Lada cars localized in Russia were used for the police, but in 2022 the Interior Ministry did not even announce tenders for purchases.
Since 2019, Skoda Octavia, UAZ Patriot, Hyundai Solaris and Lada Vesta serve as traffic police patrol cars.
“The risks created in the context of external sanctions pressure related to the introduction of sanctions by unfriendly countries and the temporary refusal of suppliers to supply and participate in competitive procedures made it impossible to procure patrol cars for the units in 2022 of the National Traffic Inspectorate,” according to the October report of the Road Traffic Safety Project Directorate”.
It has been decided to redistribute the money, but it is not stated what purposes it will be used for. A decision should be made at the end of November.
It is known that public procurement law prohibits the purchase of cars from abroad, that is, they can only be produced in Russia.
The choice is now small: simplified Lada Granta, UAZ Patriot yes Chinese Haval, located in Tula. But Khavalas are expensive (2.2-2.4 million rubles), and the allocated resources for a certain number of cars will not be enough. Experts believe that the agency wants to wait for the expansion of the offer in the market. So, in March 2023, mass production of a simplified version of Vesta will resume in Togliatti on a mechanic with a 90 hp engine from Granta. Perhaps such cars will suit the traffic police, and purchases will resume.
