Last week, Za Rulem and Avtostat conducted a survey to find out how old our readers’ cars are. It turned out that vehicles 36% respondents for more than 10 years, even 17% 8-10 year old cars eighteen% – 5-7 year olds and only 29% relatively new cars.
What has been happening in the car market over the past six months is not encouraging, there are fewer and fewer new cars. From the latter: following the lead of their fellow competitors, the Korean Hyundai and Kia practically decided to close production and leave Russia.
And the Chinese, in whom great hopes are pinned, are in no hurry to saturate our market with new cars. The specialist told what will happen to the Russian fleet next.

Azat Timerkhanov, Head of the press service of the analysis agency “Avtostat”:
— According to our data, a little more than 60% of all passenger cars in the Russian Federation are older than 10 years. According to the results of the survey, the opposite picture is obtained … Most likely, it has a large proportion of respondents from large cities, especially from Moscow and St. Petersburg, where the vehicle fleet is noticeably younger. But I want to point out another, in my opinion, more important nuance.
Today, according to the agency, the average age of a passenger car in our country is 14 years. And in the past five years, this figure has increased by a year. And this in a situation where the annual market for new cars was 1.3-1.6 million units. In 2022, according to our forecasts, it could fall to just over 600 thousand units, and it could take at least 3-4 years to recover at least 1 million units.
This means that the aging of the Russian vehicle fleet will only increase, as fewer and fewer new cars will arrive to update it. Yes, in some regions the park will be younger, for example in the same metropolitan cities or Tatarstan, but in the Far Eastern subjects it will remain old, but across the country the average age of the park will continue to grow .
