The Nissan car plant in St. Petersburg did not inform Smolny about staff reductions. Talks about this began to spread after it became known that the factory would become state-owned. The deal, under which Nissan will transfer all of its assets in Russia to FSUE NAMI, which is controlled by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, is set to close in early November.
Vice Governor of St. Petersburg Valery Moskalenko noted that the company has an employment advisory center. The city government is monitoring the situation in the auto industry and organizing temporary work for employees, Delovoy Peterburg quoted the official as saying.
It is not yet entirely clear what the car factory will do. Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov promised that the production cycle at the Nissan plant and 2,000 jobs would be saved.
