Peter Peter St. Scientists of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University have created extremely expandable LEDs for flexible screens. Such screens are much brighter than the organic LEDs currently used and the service life has been estimated for 20 years. This “Gazeta.ru” was told in St. Petersburg.
The component for a multi -colored display contains two elastic LED matrix in a different color range connected to each other with an elastic polydimetyliloxan layer. Each matrix contains a number of inorganic gears nanocrystalline of semiconductor III-nitride compounds as a light emitting element.
“In elastic devices, the active area in which the radiation rekomination process occurs should not significantly deteriorate with mechanical stretching. In addition, the transport layers, electrodes, the auxiliary layers of the case should not be spoiled. This problem is solved by our device that will make it possible to make domestic flexible screens more advanced. Our experiments have shown that the material continued to burn with 15 percent and remained stable for more than 500 stretching cycles. In other words, we have actually confirmed the possibility of forming flexible and expanded LEDs based on semiconductor nanomalzema. ”
Unlike analogues, the invention of polytechnic scientists is more functional and expands the scope of elastic LED matrices due to the possibility of showing multicolored images. The device operates with independent operation voltage for separate sub -pixels (contact zones of each elastic LED matrix). Flexible screens based on such membranes are much brighter than the currently used organic LEDs, and the service life is estimated to be 20 years.
These studies are carried out with the leading science centers in Russia – Alferov University and Skolth.
