Roskomnadzor requested that Google restore access to material on the YouTube channel of the Russian Embassy in the UK and Northern Ireland, including previously deleted material. This has been reported department press office.
“Such measures are a major attempt to limit the information work of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, fundamentally violating the basic principles of the free flow of information and unhindered access to it,” the ministry said.
Roskomnadzor believes that the Google-owned video hosting service “has taken a leading role in the information war that the Western countries have launched against Russia.”
“The site defiantly ignores the requirements of Russian legislation, does not remove illegal content, and also systematically restricts access to the content of Russian media, public and political organizations and figures,” said RKN. More than 80 such acts have been found to be censored.
Former Head of the Control and Supervision Department in the Field of Electronic Communications of Roskomnadzor Evgeny Zaitsev saidYouTube has removed more than 105,000 materials banned in Russia, but “there are also thousands of unremoved, really dangerous material that the site hasn’t removed for some reason.”
