US President Joe Biden’s administration plans to impose new restrictions on the supply of graphics cards to some countries. This measure aims to prevent advanced technologies from entering China and Russia. reports Bloomberg.
But the new restrictions will not affect the United States and its closest allies: Canada, Australia, Japan and Western European countries. The changes will be divided into three levels: the first does not impose any restrictions, the second is restrictions on the computing power of devices (50 thousand GPUs by 2027).
The third level of the ban will be a complete restriction on the export of AI chips. Therefore, in 2025, there may be a sharp increase in video card prices in Russia due to unofficial supplies.
At the end of January, Nvidia will start selling its flagship GeForce RTX 5090 video cards at a price of $ 1999 (about 203.7 thousand rubles). The Biden administration plans to impose new sanctions shortly before Donald Trump takes office. This means that restrictions will already apply when the RTX 5090 goes on sale. It is not known how much this will affect the cost of video cards in Russia.
Previously at Nvidia statedThe Biden administration’s restrictions on the export of AI chips are harmful to the United States.
