After the import of iPhone 16 to Indonesia was banned, Apple proposed to invest $100 million in the country’s economy within two years and start producing components for its devices on its territory. But Indonesian officials demand more CNBC Citing local media.
It is stated that Apple must provide 40% localization for gadgets sold in the country – Apple products in their current form do not meet these requirements. During negotiations last Thursday, Indonesian officials insisted on more serious localization than the company had proposed.
Apple had also previously offered to invest $100 million to fund research and training for application developers in Indonesia. Additionally, the company plans to start producing components for its devices, including mesh earbuds for AirPods Max, starting in July 2025.
However, local authorities demanded that the amount of investment be increased and the localization of production expanded to include not only components but also ready-made Apple accessories. It is not yet known what decision the company made as a result of the discussions.
