Windows 11 users found 8.63GB of cache on their computers that could not be deleted after upgrading to 24H2. The portal reports this Windows Latest.
Users discovered that after installing Windows 11 24H2, an 8.63GB update cache had accumulated in the system. Although the cache can be seen in normal and disk cleaning tools, users cannot delete these files due to an error in the system.
Clearing the disk and deleting temporary files in Windows settings will not help get rid of the space occupied by the update cache. Attempts deleting the cache in the Software Distribution folder and using the Disk Cleanup tool didn’t work either. Even reinstalling Windows 11 does not fix the problem; only a clean install fixes the error.
Microsoft is aware of the issue and plans to release a fix in a future update. The cache is due to the new “checkpointing” feature that reduces the size of updates. Therefore, components of the current update are marked as required for future updates and cannot be removed.
Previously Microsoft reported About five critical vulnerabilities in Windows 11.
