Toyota has confirmed that its infrastructure was hacked, resulting in hackers stealing 250GB of data from it and then posting it on the dark web. reports BleepingComputer edition.
Cybercriminals from the ZeroSevenGroup hacking group claim to have hacked a Toyota branch in the United States and stolen 240GB of files containing information about the company’s employees and customers, as well as contracts and financial information. The attackers managed to obtain information about the network infrastructure, including credentials.
“We hacked the US branch of one of the world’s largest automakers (Toyota). We are very happy to share the files with you for free. Archive size: 240 GB” the attackers’ description reads.
Although Toyota did not disclose the date of the leak, indirect evidence suggests that the attackers gained access to the server, not with the latest information, as the date of creation of the published files is December 25, 2022. The attack itself likely occurred in 2022, as in October of that year, Toyota reported a possible leak of personal information for approximately 296,000 T-Connect service customers.
