A new bug could cause Xbox One consoles and online access to be blocked 16:31

Digital Foundry portal expert Richard Leadbetter has identified a critical bug in early revisions of Xbox One consoles that could lead to the loss of access to multiplayer games. This was reported by Eurogamer.

According to the source, some first-wave Xbox One models may not be able to update their firmware, which could result in all online functionality being unavailable. At the same time, the home screen and games on physical media will continue to work as before.

It is noted that an attempt to reset to factory settings leads to complete blocking of the console, depriving it of even basic capabilities, and updating the firmware is impossible offline via the Internet or using USB.

The issue affects consoles with older firmware from 2017-2018, but the bug has not been detected on newer Xbox One S and Xbox One X models.

Apparently, the bug affects a small number of Xbox console owners, as noted in discussions on thematic forums. Leadbetter contacted Microsoft, and the company confirmed its awareness of the issue and its intention to fix it.

The expert believes that such errors are a serious signal for the industry, as the console remains fully operational, but its functionality is still limited by network connectivity requirements. Leadbetter called on platform owners to develop protocols that can ensure the functionality of older devices, regardless of their age and network access.

Previously reportedHe said Russians have become more active in purchasing PlayStation and other consoles.
