VimpelCom (Beeline brand) was the first company in Russia to announce the beginning of the abolition of 3G networks. Users of older smartphones and phones will therefore have to buy new devices if they want to use the internet.
So far, the project is being carried out in Moscow and the Moscow region, the start is planned for September this year. Frequencies in the 2.1 GHz band will be “converted” to LTE and for third-generation networks, the band in the 900 MHz band will remain, but will only allow voice transmission.
Note that this innovation should not affect the owners of push-button telephones. According to Beeline, in Moscow and the Moscow region, 3G accounts for about 4% of the total traffic and the number of users does not exceed 3%. The company also said that the transfer of 3G frequency bands to the 4G registry will increase the capacity of the data network by 50%.
And by the end of 2023, the company will implement similar innovations in more than 25 regions of the country. Other operators have not yet expressed such plans, but they are expected to switch to new standards.🔞 Sasha Gray took a shower live on Twitch
