Shortly after joining this year’s EU Code of Practice on disinformation, Twitch made the leap and joined the list of EU Code of Conduct adherents, including the companies below. Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and LinkedIn.
Věra Jourová, EC vice-president for values and transparency, said: “The good news is that Twitch is joining the collective fight to rid the internet of hate speech. and make it a safer place for young people, as they are particularly vulnerable to hate and abuse.”
The most recent review of the code shows that information technology (ICT) companies reviewed 81% of notifications received within 24 hours and removed 62.5% of flagged content.
“This is a step in the right direction for construction. a safer digital space “It serves as an incentive to extend the Code of Conduct to more companies,” said Didier Reynders, Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship.
Finally, the Commission stressed that the EU Code of Conduct complements other ICT regulatory initiatives, such as the Digital Services Act, which defines platforms’ responsibility for the content posted on them, beyond limiting hate speech.
