The size of the smartphone market has fallen sharply due to the chip shortage

The volume of smartphone shipments to Europe in the first quarter of 2022 decreased by 12% compared to the previous year. Citing a report by the analytical agency Counterpoint Research, reported GizmoChina edition.

According to analysts, smartphone shipments in Europe during this period amounted to 49 million units, down 12% year-on-year. Counterpoint said it was the lowest first quarter since 2013.

As the main factors for the worsening of the situation, experts noted the ongoing shortage of semiconductor components, the lockdowns caused by new outbreaks of COVID-19 in China, as well as the general decline in the global economy on the backdrop of Russia’s special military operation. in Ukraine.

According to the results of the first quarter of 2022, the Samsung brand took the first place in terms of market share in Europe, making 35% of all deliveries. Apple is in second place with 25% points. Third – Xiaomi (14%). It is followed by Oppo and Realme with 6% and 4% respectively.
