There will be no more Baikal-S server processors – the release has been stopped due to sanctions

The Russian company Baikal Electronics has frozen the production and sale of Baikal-S server processors. The manufacturer TSMC previously refused to release them, and ready-made processors cannot be introduced into the Russian Federation due to sanctions.

There will be no more Baikal-S server processors - the release has been stopped due to sanctions

Until the end of the year, Baikal Electronics planned to order 300,000 Baikal-M processors for PCs and laptops, as well as Baikal-S server processors, from TSMC. However, it is now unclear how this will happen, as TSMC refused to enter into new contracts. At the same time, the Russian company previously claimed that the sanctions would not affect the current developments of domestic processors.

And for that, the UK imposed sanctions on Russian companies MCST JSC, Baikal Electronics, Crocus Nanoelectronics and Integral SPB JSC.

Basically, the Baikal-S architecture is based on ARM, and the Baikal Electronics company owns manufacturing licenses for all chips up to and including Baikal S. However, there are only design licenses for newer solutions. In this case, no production company will handle the release, as there is a risk that the license right will be infringed.⚡️ Russian voice acting will be removed from STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl
