iFixit’s electronics repair experts took apart a new 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M3 chip and weren’t happy with its repairability. Read more about your dissatisfaction with iFixit expressed in the video review.
First of all, iFixit experts praised the new Apple product for its simple parsing scheme. To open the laptop, simply loosen a few screws. The battery and trackpad are then sent to a specialized technician and they can be replaced without much effort.
iFixit criticized the wiring of the RAM module and SSD directly on the motherboard. This scheme makes it impossible to replace modules or expand these computer parameters.
In contrast, various interfaces such as USB-C connectors, MagSafe charging socket and Touch ID fingerprint scanner can be separated from the motherboard without any problems. However, every detail must be verified by Apple; otherwise the operating system will generate an error.
Additionally, many types of repairs require subsequent configuration of the MacBook using Apple’s proprietary software. Otherwise, the device will not work properly. This limitation applies even to minor maintenance such as replacing an articulated sensor or display.
Taking all complaints into account, iFixit experts rated the repairability of the MacBook Pro with the M3 processor at 4 out of 10 points.
